The BN Residence merges a victorian and a post-war layout ...
...that results in fragmented environments...
If you went back in time you would find that service spaces, like the kitchen...
...were often organized in a communal court or floor. The open fire served as the heat source for the house...
Forward to Victorian times...
...service spaces were inside the house...
...and clearly segregated.
In modern times, after the war, service spaces were reduced and rationalized...
...the "liner" kitchen became the norm.
We liked the idea of organizing uses around the fireplace.
Intrigued by the concept of blending "Victorian living" with "Modern living", we designed inviting and generous communal areas, as well as more intimate spaces, like the breakfast nook.
The new layout offers a multiplicity of environments...
...that flow into each other.
Fluid circulation between the rooms...
... opens up the house and returns it to a primal state of offering, gathering and containing life.
